Obituary

Everett F. Almen, age 85, a resident of the Holmstad in Batavia and formerly of Wheaton, died Sunday, November 21, at the Delnor Hospital in Geneva. He was born on August 20, 1919 in Chicago to Elof and Esther Almen.

Everett served in the US Army during WWII in the 1st Cavalry, Black Horse Troop in the South Pacific. He graduated from Barrington College in 1951. He was a jack of all trades and retired after 16 years from Glenbard South High School District 87. For many years, he was a member of Pleasant Hill Community Church in Wheaton, and in recent years has been a member of Faith Baptist Church in Winfield.

Mr. Almen is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy, nine children, Elizabeth (Douglas) Martin of MA, Dorothy Jeanne (Larry) Almen-Harwood of WI, Carol (Dwight) Taylor of FL, John (Lorraine) Almen of Urbana, Barbara (Scott) Barngrover of Aurora, Glen (Wendi) Almen of Geneva, Gloria (Bill) Deckard of Winfield, Beverley (Kevin) Curry of KS, and Annette (Mark) Fudge of Cisco, 17 grandchildren, one sister, Edith (George) Jacobsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six sisters.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 23, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, where services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.

Private interment will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery near Joliet.
