Obituary

Evelyn Louise Yeaton, nee Black, 89, a former resident of Oak Park, IL, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Johnson Heathcare Center in Carol Stream. She was born January 28, 1919 in Algona, Iowa.
After graduating from Algona High School in 1936, Evelyn earned a BA degree from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls and a MA Degree from Roosevelt University, Chicago. In November of 1960 she married Frederick Chasey Yeaton. For over 50 years, she taught high school in Iowa and Illinois. In 1948, Evelyn helped the Rockford School System move into the world of computer technology, resulting in the conversion of school records from paper to electronic computer files. Later, when personal computers came out, Evelyn went back to teaching and wrote curriculum for computer technology classes.
She was active in a number of organizations. She served as president in both the Chicago Area Business Teachers Association and also the 19th Century Woman's' Club. She also held office in the Lakeshore Retired Teachers Association, the AAUW, various church committees and the Alumni Board of the University of Northern Iowa. Evelyn and her sister Ruth traveled extensively throughout the world.
She is survived by twelve nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Chasey Yeaton; her parents, Paul H. and Elizabeth "Lilly" J. Black and siblings, Ruth E. Black, Robert E. Black and Everett P. Black.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Algona, Algona, Iowa. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 until the time of service. A graveside service will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Algona.
