Evelyn Nelson, 81, a longtime resident of Wheaton, died Tuesday, July 18 at the Central Du Page Hospital. She was born on November 11, 1924 in DeKalb, Illinois to John and Lillian Johnson.
Evelyn graduated from Maple Park High School and attended Wheaton College. She worked as a bookkeeper for Burek and Associates Law Firm in Wheaton for many years. In recent years, she has worked as a children's tutor in Wheaton with the Republican Women's Club and volunteered in community service organizations. She also worked at the Billy Graham Center as a phone counselor.
Mrs. Nelson was an active member of the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church of Wheaton where she had served in the Sunday School Department, and sang in the choir. More recently she attended Grace Church of Du Page in Warrenville and was active with the Children's Ministry.
She is survived by one sister, June Tennyson of Carol Stream and one niece, Debra Carlson (Scott) Foshee of CA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard M. "Dick" Nelson in 1993, her sister, Alice Festa Tyson and her parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20, from 5 until 9 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, where a funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m..
Interment will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oak Brook Terrace.
