Evelyn Rae Gaskins went home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2012. She was born August 28th, 1915 in Chicago, IL.

She married Sylvester "Sully" Gaskins and they had two children. The family moved to Wheaton, IL in the early 50's where she resided until her passing.

She was a long time member of Gary Methodist Church. During her years raising her children she was involved in PTA and various school activities. She was always there to support her children in their activities: Boy Scouts & model trains for her son, Girl Scouts and teaching cooking to her daughter. She was an active member of the Wheaton Garden Club, Infant Welfare Society and The Wheaton Drama Club.
In later years she worked for the Chicago Heart Association and also Northwestern University in their High Blood Pressure Research Program.

Evelyn was a gracious hostess and an excellent cook. Her family and friends remember her as being a "good listener", someone they enjoyed talking with. She leaves us with many fond memories, with patience, caring, and much strength with which she guided us in life's lessons throughout our life journey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sully Gaskins. Evelyn is survived by her two children Kathy Rae (Richard) White of Seeley Lake, Montana, and Les (Audrey) Gaskins of Chicago. Also her grandson Adam Schipper of Upper Lake, Ca., her granddaughter Wendy Rae Wetherell of Healdsburg, Ca. and a great granddaughter Ashlee Rae Wetherell of Helena, Mt. That makes 4 generations of middle names Rae, a precious legacy.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Feb. 20th at 11:00am at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N. Main St., in Wheaton. There will be a reception and luncheon following at Cantigny Park Visitors Center on Mack Rd. Winfield.
