Evelyn M
Claeson
May 1, 1934 – January 13, 2021
Evelyn (Evie) May Claeson, age 86, a resident of The Holmstad in Batavia, Illinois passed away January 13, 2021. She was born May 1, 1934 in Oak Park, Illinois to Albert & Anna Werner.
Evie was raised in Oak Park, Illinois. After graduating high school, she went to Iowa State University to major in Home Economics. While there, she met her husband Edward, an engineering major. They married in March of 1955 and moved to Texas to fulfill the commitment Ed had made to the Air Force while in ROTC. Their daughter Sandy was born while they lived at Sheppard AFB. After two years, they moved to the home they had built in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, where their son David was born.
Evie was a stay-at-home mom and an excellent homemaker. She taught her children to cook, to sew, and to be responsible. As her children grew older, she became the Home Economics aide at Glen Ellyn Jr High. Both Ed and Evie were active at Glen Ellyn Evangelical Covenant Church in many different ways. They taught their children to love God and led them to faith in Jesus.
In 1979, Ed was transferred to California when his company was purchased by Fluor. The couple moved there with their son David and lived in Irvine for eight years. Evie took jobs at Fluor also, becoming first a Senior Clerk Typist and then an Executive Personal Assistant to Fluor's president. While in California, Evie made many friends and enjoyed the outdoor life there, including sailing with Ed.
Ed & Evie left California for Bloomington, Minnesota in 1988 where Ed worked for Northern States Power. A highlight of their time there was the week each summer they spent in cabins with their children and grandchildren in the north woods. Evie was quite a good fisherwoman! When Ed retired, the couple returned to Illinois where they reconnected with lifelong friends and their church family. Eventually, Ed and Evie moved to their final home at The Holmstad in Batavia, Illinois.
Ed and Evie were known for their generosity, and Evie had a reputation for her hospitality. On several occasions they provided room and board for acquaintances who needed a place to stay for extended periods of time. They frequently hosted vacationing guests in their homes in Irvine and Bloomington. Evie loved to decorate, and to cook and bake, and provided gourmet meals to their guests.
Evie is survived by her daughter, Sandy (Bill) Skowera; her son David (Susan) Claeson; her grandchildren, Jonathan (Keon-young), Chris, and Jill Skowera, and Claes and Michael Claeson.
Evie was preceded in death by her husband Edward Uno Claeson, her parents Albert and Anna Werner, and her sister Miriam Bird.
