Obituary
Evangeline K. Stamoolis, nee Douros, age 95, a resident of Wheaton, Illinois, and formerly of Jeannette, Pennsylvania from 1920 until 1995, died in the Lord at her son's home on July 16, 2005.
Evangeline was born on March 12, 1910 in Tripi, Greece. Along with her three brothers, she owned and operated the Olympia Confectionery, a restaurant and candy store in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, where she was known for her kindness, generosity, and quick sense of humor, as well as excellent candy making. Her caring ways made her many friends when she moved to Wheaton. She was a lifelong member of the Ypapanti, Presentation of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in East Pittsburgh and regularly attended First Baptist Church in Wheaton.
Evangeline was the beloved wife of the late James Peter Stamoolis, dearly loved mother of Dr. James (Evy) Stamoolis of Wheaton, treasured grandmother of John Stamoolis of Chicago, Joel (Naomi) Stamoolis of Wasilla, Alaska, and Josh (Leslie) Stamoolis of Oxford, Ohio; and proud great-grandma to Malachi Stamoolis of Wasilla. She was a caring sister to the late Sam, George and John Douros; sister-in-law to Amalia Stamoolis of Pittsburgh and Nellie Douros of Latrobe, PA and cousin to Spiro (Athina) Manousakis and George Manousakis of Athens, Greece, beloved aunt to many in Pittsburgh, and grandmother in heart to many others.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 19, from 3-8 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A visitation will then be held at Mason-Gelder Funeral Home (724-523-5539), 201 N. First Street, in Jeannette, Pennsylvania on Thursday, July 21 from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. and again from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, July 22, at the Presentation of Christ Greek Orthodox Church (412-824-9188), 1672 Electric Avenue, in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Burial will follow the services and be at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Trinity International University Scholarship Fund, 2065 Half Day Rd, Bannockburn, IL 60015; or to the Presentation of Christ Greek Orthodox Church, 1672 Electric Ave., PO Box J, East Pittsburgh, PA 15112; or to First Baptist Church Heritage Fund, 1310 N. Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187.
