Evan M. DeBock, age 28, a resident of Chicago, IL, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026. He was born February 6, 1998 in Lake Forest, IL.
Evan will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, quick wit, resilience, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. He had a way of making those around him feel cared for—not through grand gestures or attention, but through the steady and dependable way he showed up for them. He was a devoted husband, a wonderful brother & son, and someone his family knew they could count on. Evan loved deeply and generously. He was protective without making a show of it, thoughtful in ways that often went unspoken, and willing to put aside his own plans when someone he loved needed him. His kindness was genuine and instinctive; caring for his people was simply part of who he was. Evan was also very, very funny. He had a sharp wit and a playful sense of humor, and he loved making the people closest to him laugh. He could be particular and strong-willed, qualities that were unmistakably his. He brought humor into ordinary moments and had a special ability to make even the people he loved most laugh at themselves. A lifelong Chicago sports fan, Evan loved the Cubs and the Bears, through all the highs, lows, heartbreak, and hope that came with being a fan. There was a gentleness to Evan that existed alongside that humor and strength. He made room for the people he loved—their fears, their quirks, their mistakes, and all the things that made them human. He was the kind of person who made you feel safe enough to be completely yourself around him. Throughout his illness, Evan showed extraordinary bravery and resilience. He faced circumstances no one should have to face with remarkable strength of will. Yet his life was so much bigger than his illness, and he deserves to be remembered for far more than the courage he showed at the end of it. He should be remembered for the husband he was, the brother he was, and the person he was every day: kind, funny, generous, loyal, loving, strong-willed, and entirely himself. The measure of Evan’s life can be found in the people who loved him and in the countless ways he made their lives better simply by being part of them. His absence will be felt profoundly, but so will everything he gave while he was here. Evan was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed. The love, laughter, and sense of belonging he gave to the people around him will remain with them always.
He is survived by his wife, Haley; their dog Oscar; his parents Brian & Amy DeBock; his mother & father-in-law Christine & Kevin Trojanowski; his sisters Olivia (Thomas) Michielutti, Ellie (Nathan) Meek & Madelyn DeBock; his sister-in-law Peyton Trojanowski; his maternal grandfather Joseph Tumas; his niece Alice Michielutti. Also survive by Haley’s grandparents Rose Toia and Carol & Robert Trojanowski.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandmother Judith Tumas; his paternal grandparents Francis and Constance DeBock; and his grandfather-in-law Joseph Caballero.
