Eugene W. Pierpoint, age 86, a resident of Windsor Park Manor, Carol Stream, and formerly of Park Ridge, died Sunday, February 24th at Johnson Healthcare Center at Windsor Park. He was born on November 28, 1921 in Norton, Virginia to John and Anna Pierpoint.
Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII. Upon his return from the South Pacific, he met Naval buddy Charles Carlson's sister, Shirley, whom he married in October 1946 in Chicago. During their 60 years together, they loved to travel, and always cherished time with family, especially their grandchildren.
Gene was employed with the U. S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He was a long time active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Norwood Park, where he served as Sunday School Superintendant, Elder and Choir member. He especially enjoyed ministering to the elderly and shut-ins. Gene and Shirley moved to Windsor Park Manor in 1996 to be closer to their son and his family. While there, they were able to make many new friends and enjoy life in this caring community.
Eugene is survived by one son John (Linda) of Carol Stream, two grandchildren, Sarah and Jeffrey; his brother-in-law, Charles "Bud" (Jean) Carlson of Texas and many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, his parents, two sisters, Elizabeth Lykins and Ann Shaw and one brother, Charles Pierpoint.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 27, from 3 - 9 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 28, at 10:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home. Interment will be held privately at Irving Park Cemetery in Chicago.
