Obituary

Eugene F. Haefner, age 93, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL, died peacefully March 6, 2011, at home. He was born January 28, 1918 in Esslingen, Germany.

Gene served as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II. His tour of duty took him to the Pacific where he fought on Okinawa. He started his career as a baker, and proudly made his own wedding cake. He later worked for Commonwealth Edison as a Foreman from 1950 until he retired. He loved to read, listen to classical music and do crossword puzzles. He was ahead of his time with alternative medicine. He was always up on current events and was known as someone who loved life.

He is survived by his daughters, Kathy (Michael) Costello of Elmhurst, IL, and Carol (Robert) Haefner Cibic of Wheaton, IL; two grandchildren, James (Lisa) Costello and Jennifer (Lee) Fritz; his brother, Paul Haefner, two sisters, Elizabeth Giangrossi and Frances Lemke.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mildred. They resided in Lombard, IL where Gene remained until moving to Windsor Park Manor in 2008.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service to be held at 1:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL.
