Obituary

A memorial service for Eugene August Diemand, of Wheaton, will be held on Friday, May 6 at 12:00 noon at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

He was born in York PA and raised in Palmyra, NJ. During WWII, immediately after high school graduation, he signed up to join the US Air Force and in 1943 he graduated from the USAAF cadet-training program and was a pilot in the Pacific Theater. He was part of the Japan Occupation Force and was stationed there for a period after the war as a civil administrator. Upon his return he attended the Charles Morris Price School of Advertising in Philadelphia. He returned to active duty from 1951 to 1953 as a fighter pilot, he also trained other pilots during the Korean conflict and Vietnam war.

He remained with the Illinois Air National Guard until 1973 and attended the Air Command and Staff College, retiring as a Lt. Colonel and Command Pilot. While in the Illinois Air National Guard he worked in the insurance industry. He became the Advertising Manager for Marsh & Mclennan in Chicago. In 1973 he founded Diemand Printing Co. Eugene was a long time Wheaton resident and was well known for his efforts to limit certain types of commercial development and road signage in Wheaton. He was a member of Retired Officers Assn., President of ENG Silver Circle Assn. Air Force Assn. and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Wheaton, Scottish Rite Valley of Chicago. He was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Wheaton and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Seminole FL. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the game year round in Wheaton and his home in Florida.

He died in his home on Monday, May 2 after a long fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth, nee Maute. His sons, Kim (Jan), Jeffrey (Lori), Steven, Christopher (Cindy) and grand children, Megan (Daniel) Blessing, Michael, Andrew, Christopher JR, Steven, and Dakota Diemand.
