Eugene (Gene) C. Batchelar III, age 67, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 20, 2014 after a long battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy and one son, Brandon. Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Colleen Batchelar in 1998 and his father, Eugene Batchelar, Jr. in 1999.

Visitation with the family will take place at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street in Wheaton, Illinois on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 2:00 P. M. to 5:00 P. M. Memorial service and burial will take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Gene Batchelar was born on August 4, 1947, and grew up in Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania. He graduated from Shadyside Academy in 1965. In 1969, he received a business degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Gene served in the United States Army for two years following graduation from Cornell and was stationed in South Korea.

Upon returning home from South Korea, Gene worked in the Bond Department of Chubb Insurance Company for 10 years in both Cincinnati, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He joined American Appraisal Company in 1981 and served as District Manager in
Pittsburgh and Regional Manager in the Chicago area.

For the past several years, Gene has enjoyed volunteering at the campaign office of Congressman Peter Roskam. Gene was an avid trap shooter and a member of the St. Charles Sportsman's Club. He served for many years as an usher at Wheaton Bible Church. Gene was always willing to help anyone in need, and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
