Emily C. Pierson, age 93, a resident of Batavia, Illinois, formerly of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022. She was born April 5, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to James & Margaret Lemon.
Emily accepted Jesus Christ as her savior as a young girl and followed Christ faithfully throughout her life. She and her family attended South Shore Baptist Church (IL). Emily graduated from South Shore High School, Chicago in 1947. She was a leader in the Girls' Athletic Association and the "Hi-C" Club where she met Carl, her future husband. Emily completed nursing school at West Suburban Hospital, Oak Park, IL, in 1950 and then finished her Bachelor's degree at Wheaton College in 1952 with honors.
Emily was taught to play tennis as a young girl and grew to love the sport. After playing on the Wheaton College tennis team she continued to participate in women's leagues, playing in singles and doubles tournaments (Ft. Her other passions included planting and cutting flowers in her yards, playing piano, baking in the kitchen with her own mother and daughters, and spending precious time with her kids and grandkids.
She also worked vocationally as an RN at different hospitals until their third child was born in 1960. Later, after her children were in school she found opportunities to volunteer at numerous clinics (WIC, etc.) in Fort Wayne, IN for many years.
She was always very active in numerous ministries at Immanuel Baptist Church, Fort Wayne, IN. One of her favorite labors of love was starting a Pioneer Girls Club in which she led and served for many years. All through her life Emily was a diligent, faithful prayer warrior, and she clung strongly to the promises of God
Her favorite word for living life was "balance." She was the calm strength and stabilizing factor of the Pierson family. Emily was a dedicated, loyal wife and a patient, loving mom. She sought to remain true to God's Word and steadfast in all areas of life.
She is survived by her children Carl "Tug" (Judi) Pierson III, Craig (Sara) Pierson, Peggy (Michael) Pitts, and son-in-law Steve Glassman; her grandchildren Ana Pierson; Ian Pierson and Quinn (Michael) Kenney; Emily (Luke) Smith and Michael Pitts II; Andrew Reimer, Eryn (Daryl) Boyer, Tyler Glassman, and Courtney (Dusty) Hawk; and great grandson Malachi Smith. Also survived by her sister Sarah "Sadie" Blomberg, brother Jim (Ann) Lemon, and many nieces and nephews.
