Elvira E. Schroeder, age 96, a resident of Wheaton, Illinois died December 7, 2020, at Westbridge at Wyndemere in Wheaton. She was born April 29, 1924 in Germany to Rudolf & Elsa Grassle.She married Martin Schroeder on December 14, 1946.

Elvira was a devout Christian who was involved in many committees and activities at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton. She volunteered at Central DuPage Hospital and loved to help with the newborn babies. Her last 13 years were spent living in the Wyndemere retirement community and creating new, meaningful friendships there. She was known by her friends as the cookie lady because of her baked potato chip cookies. People will remember her for her wonderful spirit, her contagious energy and her positive outlook in life. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Andy Harding); her grandson Eric Newsham; and her great-grandchildren Jonathan & Lorrisa Newsham. She is also survived by her two special friends: Norma Piro & Melba Layton.

Preceded in death by her husband Martin; her son Charles R. Schroeder; and her parents.

A private burial will be held at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Bethesda Lutheran Communities , Lutheran World Relief & Salvation Army .
