Elvira Edna (Ruckstaetter) McCanna, age 101, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 9, 2015, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. The daughter of the late George and Edna Ruckstaetter, she was born on March 18, 1914 in Des Plaines, IL.

Elvira graduated from Maine Township High School in 1932. On May 11, 1940, Elvira married Walter McCanna and lived in Des Plaines. Among other jobs, she worked in accounting for Spiegler's Department store in Des Plaines for many years. She and Walter moved to Windsor Park Manor in 1986 where she was an active resident who was very committed to her home. Elvira regularly attended the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church. She enjoyed playing the organ, was an avid gardener, an excellent cook, and a life-long Cubs fan.

She is survived by her younger brother, George Ruckstaetter; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and great nephews from all around the country.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Walter; her parents; and her brother, Eugene Ruckstaetter.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Windsor Park , 124 Windsor Park Dr, Carol Stream, IL 60188. The family will be happy to receive guests in the hour preceding the service and afterwards as well. Interment will be private at Memory Gardens in Arlington Heights, IL.
