Elsie E. Bower, age 82, a resident of Winfield for over 20 years, died Saturday, November 4, at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village. She was born July 31, 1924 in Hurley, WI.
During World War II she served in the Navy as an Airplane Mechanic. After the war she met her husband, Irving "Walter" Bower, and they were married in Chicago. Elsie had a number of careers, one of her favorites was driving a school bus for District 33 in West Chicago. She spent the last 25 years of her career as a Postal Clerk in the Wheaton Post Office. She was actively involved in the JOY Group at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton.
She is survived by her six children, Elaine (Bill) Fredericks of West Chicago, Ed (Sue) of Roselle, Suzan (Paul) Schweller of Warrenville, Judy of Alpharetta, GA, Larry (Dawn) of Wheaton, and Janet of West Chicago; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and two sisters, Sylvia Gould, and Elaine (Stan) Kubacki, both of WI.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 20 years, Walter; one son, Kenneth; three brothers; and one sister.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8, from 10:30 A.M. until the time of a service at 11:30 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church, corner of Main and Seminary, in Wheaton. Interment will follow at Arlington Cemetery in Elmhurst.
