Elizabeth Shepard's Obituary

Elizabeth Shepard, nee Gauger, age 94, was taken home to be with her Lord on November 17. Beloved wife of the late Evan Shepard, Elizabeth, known as Bette, passed away at her home in Naperville, IL.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Nancy (Dwight) Kay of Glen Carbon, IL, Robert (Carol) Shepard of Naples FL and Susan (James) Boutwell of Wheaton, IL. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life in her later years.

Bette met the love of her life, Evan, in high school and they corresponded when he served in the Navy in the Second World War. They married in 1946. Bette always was very active in her churches, especially the Glen Ellyn Bible Church and the Wheaton Evangelical Free Church. She taught Sunday School and for many years led Vacation Bible School. In 1974 she was recognized as Department Superintendent of the Year by the Greater Chicago Sunday School Association. Bette was a good athlete and in her later years took up bowling. As an octogenarian she consistently defeated her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on the bowling lanes.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 4 at noon and the funeral service at 1pm at Grace Church of DuPage in Warrenville. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Grace Church of DuPage, Tabor Hills or the charity of your choice.
