Elizabeth R. "Betty" Halpate Kerns, age 82, of Wheaton, and formerly of Toronto, OH, died Wednesday, July 13, at the home of her daughter, Stephanie Miller in Wheaton. Born September 29, 1922 in East Liverpool, OH, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Frances Sharkey Greenwood.
Betty was a member of the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Toronto and the Catholic Women's Club of the church. She was a 1940 graduate of the East Liverpool High School and a member of the East Liverpool Alumni Association. Her other memberships include the Toronto Senior Citizens and the Jefferson County Democratic Party.
She is survived by her son, David M. (Judith) Halpate of Renovo, PA; her daughters, Stephanie A. (Fred) Miller of Wheaton, with whom she lived, and Barbara F. (Ken) Morrow of Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren, Sean and David E. Halpate, Jack and Noah Miller, and Krysten, Brittany and Evan Morrow; and three great-grandchildren, Devon, Dalyn, and Zoe Halpate.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael S. Halpate, Jr. who died in 1960; and her second husband, John "Jack" W. Kerns who died in 1995; and her son, Michael S. Halpate III, who died in 1963.
Services and interment were held in Toronto, OH.
