Obituary

Elizabeth Catañag, age 81, a resident of Wheaton, IL, passed away September 15, 2025. She was born February 1, 1944, in Manila, Philippines.

On September 26, 1965, Elizabeth married Rolando Catañag. Five years later, in 1970, Rolando moved to the United States in pursuit of a better future for their family, while Elizabeth stayed behind in the Philippines. After securing a job at Sargent & Lundy and gaining financial stability, Rolando was able to bring Elizabeth to join him in the U.S. The couple spent a year building their new life together before bringing their five children to live with them in the Chicago area, where they eventually settled in the suburbs.

Elizabeth had formal education in accounting but chose to sacrifice her career to focus on raising their children. Later, she returned to the workforce as an associate clerk, working for various retail stores including Marshall Field's, Sears, and Value City. She eventually retired alongside Rolando, and the couple moved to Ocala, Florida, to enjoy their retirement and spend more time with their family.

Elizabeth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always made time for her family. She cherished teaching the younger generations about Filipino culture and loved sharing stories about raising her children.

In her free time, Elizabeth found immense joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren—sharing meals and simply relaxing together were among her greatest pleasures. She also loved catching up with friends, often chatting with them for hours. A devout Catholic, she regularly attended Mass at St. Matthew Church while living in Glendale Heights, and later became a member of St. Isidore Parish after moving to Carol Stream.

Elizabeth is survived by; her children Gloria (Dara) Meas, Liberty (Robert) Turner, Lorenzo (Lynn) Catañag, II, Maribeth (Mark) Evans and Rolando (Mercy) Catañag, Jr.; her grandchildren: Angela (Phil) Brictson and Michelle Meas; Andrew (Melissa) Turner and Robert Turner, Jr. (Tyelor Mcelhaney); Evan (Melissa), MacGregor and Kassidi Catañag; Zachary and Alexander Evans; and Ryan and Matthew Catañag; her great-grandchildren Elijah, Gwendolyn, and Lilian Turner.

Preceded in death by her husband of nearly 55 years, Rolando B. Catañag; their daughter Angela Corazon and her parents Florencio and Facilitacion Patindol and her siblings, Florencio Jr. and Eduardo.
