Elizabeth Carlson, age 88, a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL died Saturday August 3, at Windsor's Johnson Health Care Center in Carol Stream, IL. She was born September 16, 1924 in Camden, NJ.
Although a New Jersey girl, Elizabeth chose to attend Wheaton College, where she became close friends with Mildred Carlson, Warren Carlson's sister. As World War II progressed, she entered the United States Army Nursing Corps and transferred to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD to earn her Registered Nurse degree. When the war ended, she married Warren Carlson (they were encouraged to communicate by Mildred) on December 28, 1946, moved to Chicago's east side, and began raising a family. They outgrew that home, and moved to Wheaton, IL. Elizabeth worked as a nurse at Geneva Community Hospital, Delnor Hospital, and eventually in a private doctors' medical practice.
Elizabeth was an active member of College Church in Wheaton for over 50 years, and had a heart for missions. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, and hand sewing. She cherished her family, her friends, and anyone who came to 330 East Franklin Street was welcomed. She truly had the gift of hospitality.
She is survived by her seven children, David (Henri) of Glendale, AZ, Jonathan (Vonnie) of Herrick, IL, Thomas (Rebecca) of Houston, TX, Sarah (David) Hunter of St. Louis, MO, Priscilla (Vincent) Eisaman of Fredonia, NY, Rebecca (Scott) Lubinski of West Chicago, IL, and Peter (Eric Kamm) of Los Angeles, CA; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren.
