IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth W.
"Bette" Geyer
December 14, 1928 – August 24, 2024
Elizabeth W. "Bette" Geyer, age 95, a resident of Wyndemere in Wheaton, IL, passed away peacefully in her sleep the morning of August 24th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Bette was born December 14, 1928, in Newton, MA to Grace Thomkins and Clarence Walker. She graduated from Wellesley High School, Wellesley, MA in 1946 and Bethany College, Bethany, WV, earning a BA degree in social psychology in 1950.
Along with her brother, Bette grew up in a family that enjoyed frequent gatherings with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. The Walker's first emigrated from Scotland in the late 1800's and her Scottish roots along with the family get-togethers of Bette's youth were cherished and recounted by her many times over the years.
Bette worked for the General Electric Company where she met her future husband Richard "Dick" Geyer. They were married in 1953 in Fairfield, CT. They had four children and were transferred five times, living in Cleveland, Indianapolis, Chagrin Falls, OH and finally settling in Wheaton in 1957.
Raising a family and running a household were Bette's focus along with building lasting friendships with many Wheaton neighbors. Bette enjoyed playing tennis, golf and bridge and was a happy yet determined competitor. Her favorite activities, however, were gardening and landscaping. Every season represented a fresh opportunity to bring new life and beauty to her yard through many hours of work that she relished.
The Geyer's were members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Wheaton where Bette for many years co-led the church rummage sale. She continued her landscaping efforts at Trinity, removing old english ivy taking over the outer wall of the sanctuary and replacing many shrubs with perennials.
With her children growing up, Bette pursued further education and became a travel agent in Wheaton. The arrival of grandchildren was a new joy in her life and added to family occasions at Wyndemere where Bette and Dick resided since 2001, and their cottage "Mosside" on Lake Mary in Twin Lakes, WI where the family frequently gathered in the summer months.
Bette is survived by her husband of 71 years, Richard; her children Laura (David) Morgese, Walker (Carole Long) and Joanna (Stephen) Springer; her four grandchildren John (Emily) Cacic, Nicholas Cacic, Mary Grace Morgese and BethAnn Morgese; her great-grandson Ryan Cacic; and her brother John (the late Susan) Walker.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Laura Elizabeth Geyer.
