Elizabeth "Betty"
Ann Muchow
January 2, 1934 – January 24, 2021
Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Muchow passed away at her home in Windsor Park suddenly but peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2021. She was born on 1/2/34 in Oak Park, Illinois, to Elmer and Mildred (Wunderlin) Muchow. She graduated from Capital University in Ohio in 1955, and received her MA in nursing from the University of Chicago in 1959. She worked as a nurse, mostly in the Chicago area, from then until her final retirement in 2018 (part-time in the last few years).
Her church played a major role in her life, where she taught Sunday School, sang with the choir and participated in theatrical productions. Most recently she was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Oak Park. She sang, as an alto, for 42 years in the do-it-yourself Messiah in Chicago.
She was a steadfast anti-technologist, never owning a computer. She always preferred to communicate in person, by phone, or by letter or card. She was a prolific sender of cards, even for the most minor of holidays.
She was fond of reading, shopping and chocolate, and loved sharing chocolate with her extended family. She was always a great admirer of squirrels.
Throughout her life, she was always known for being cheerful and upbeat, even under trying circumstances. She counted herself as blessed. "I have had a good life" she said recently.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Judy who died in infancy, her cousins Mildred "Milly" Dordal, George Reinke, Ruthie (Wunderlin) Froehlich and Edith (Wunderlin) Belote, and Edith's daughter Nancy Belote. She is survived by her cousins' children Greg, Todd, Karn and Lori Reinke, Randy Froehlich, Peter, Andrew and Lisa Dordal, Kristin Poerschke and John Belote.
Arrangements are by Hultgren Funeral Home in Wheaton. Memorials may be sent to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Oak Park, 611 Randolph St., Oak Park, IL 60302. A service for Betty will be held at Good Shepherd when we can safely gather.
