Elizabeth June Allen, age 80, a resident of Wheaton, IL and formerly of Binghamton, NY, died Wednesday, September 20 at the Central Du Page Hospital in Winfield, IL. She was born on May 24, 1926 to Ernest and Anne Curtin in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.
She married Rev. John R. Allen on September 4, 1948. Together they served the Lord and grew their family in Falls, PA, Warsaw, NY, Lorain, OH, Michigan City, IN, Binghamton, NY, and Evansville, IN. They served at Evergreen Baptist Church in Michigan City from 1968 to 1976 and again in 1990. After John's death in 1991, she moved to Wheaton, IL, where she volunteered at Du Page Convalescent Center, worked at the Health Clinic of Wheaton College, and worshiped at Faith Baptist Church in Winfield.
June is survived by four children, David (Jean) Allen of Wheaton, Paul (Deborah) Allen of Clarendon Hills, Ruth (Jim) Roberts of Binghamton, NY, and Elizabeth (Wes) Wetherell of Glen Ellyn, 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three siblings, Kay Prudom, Harry Curtin and Evelyn Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two siblings, Christina and Stewart Curtin, and one great-grandchild, Benjamin Allen Peays.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Baptist Church, Coolspring Ave., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Jon Rumley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the John Allen Seminary Scholarship, Baptist Bible Seminary, 538 Venard Rd., Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
