Elizabeth "Betsy" Franz Albert, age 97, a resident of Mettawa, IL, passed away on June 11, 2021. She was born November 9, 1923 in Park Ridge to Herbert and Louise Franz.
Affectionately known as "Betsy", she grew up in Park Ridge and graduated from the University of Florida. Her career included multiple interests including architecture, editing and finance. Mrs. Albert was an accomplished artist and received several awards for her portraits and still life paintings. She was a charter member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Other affiliations include the American Farmland Trust, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Natural Resources Defense Council, The Environmental Defense Fund, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Landmarks Preservation Council of Chicago and The Cousteau Society of which she is a founding member. She also bred eight champion miniature poodles and was an excellent musician and avid gardener.
In 2017-18, she was awarded the Marquis Who's Who Lifetime Achievement Award for her work to preserve the Chicago area's rich cultural and geographic history and for her work in conservation, particularly for her campaign against Dacthal (a herbicide that has been linked to lymphoma and Parkinson's disease). She has been included in Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in Finance and Business.
Services will be held privately at Town of Maine Cemetery.
