Elenor Johnson, age 91, a lifelong resident of Wheaton, died Saturday, October 31, 2009, at home. She was born on May 7, 1918 in Chicago to Matthew and Dorothy Ludig.
Elenor was the Valedictorian of her Wheaton Community High School class. She worked as a secretary for Pure Oil Company before getting married to her childhood sweetheart, Herbert, and raising three children. She was very active with the Wheaton VFW Post #2164, where she served in many capacities including President of the Ladies Auxiliary. She and Herbert started and ran the Wheaton VFW fish fry in 1956 which is still run by her family to this day.
She is survived by her three children, Herbert (Patricia) Johnson Jr. of Wheaton, Donald (Camille) Johnson of Lisle and Trudy (Richard) Smith of West Chicago; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Herbert.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 3, from 4 to 8 P.M. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, where a service will be held on Wednesday, November 4 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.
