Eleanor Ziemba, age 94, a resident of Wheaton, IL, died February 13, 2022, at Wynscape Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wheaton, Illinois.  She was born March 12, 1927 in Chicago to Rudolph and Frances Vastlik.

Eleanor grew up in Chicago and graduated from Farragut High School. On September 18, 1948, Eleanor married Ed Ziemba in Chicago. Ed and Eleanor remained lifelong companions for over 71 years.

Eleanor worked as a secretary for Socony-Vacuum Oil Company in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Upon moving from Chicago to La Grange/Countryside Eleanor became a devoted homemaker. She particularly enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing and knitting.  As a mother, Eleanor loved playing games and outdoor activities with her children, was an active member of the PTA and a Cub Scout leader.

Eleanor enjoyed staying active. In her teenage years she participated in club gymnastics and played violin in the orchestra. As an adult she loved to play volleyball, league bowling, and traveling with Ed.  In her later years Eleanor became a regular volunteer at Saint Cletus Church. Eleanor will be remembered most for her sense of humor and devotion to her family.

Eleanor is survived by her son Scott Ziemba (Eileen Ziemba), her daughter Lori Ziemba (Ken Massaroni), three granddaughters, Frances Massaroni, Marina Massaroni and Jaclyn Hughes, and her great-grandson Emmett Hughes.She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Ziemba and brothers Donald and Rudolph Vastlik.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation be made to Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans at helpaveteran.org .
