Elaine Hauke, age 96, a resident of Wheaton, IL, since 1953, passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021. She was born March 20, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to Alfred and Clare Van Loozen.

Elaine, the oldest of six, grew up in Dearborn, Michigan. She graduated from Detroit Mercy Medical School in Ann Arbor as a Registered Nurse. She was training with the US Cadet Nurse Corps to help relieve the shortage of nurses caused by WWII. However the war ended before she was called to serve. She met William Hauke in Ann Arbor. They were married on June 17, 1950. They started their family in New Orleans and relocated to Wheaton where they raised seven children.

Elaine was very active in the community, as well as her church. She volunteered for many years at Marianjoy, where she was honored for her 40 years of service. Elaine also volunteered at Treasure House and Meals on Wheels. For years she would take blood pressures for seniors at Memorial Park.

She enjoyed bowling and golfing with family and friends. She regularly played bridge with Bill and continued playing bridge with friends after his passing in 2005. Elaine loved watching and listening to baseball and was an avid Cubs fan. It was a given during baseball season to hear or see a ball game on in the background in her home. Her dream finally came true when the Cubs won the pennant. Elaine looked forward to hosting the annual Christmas Cookie Bake with family where upwards of 1500 cookies were baked in a day. She enjoyed a variety of travel experiences throughout her life. Most of all she loved being with her family.

She is survived by six children, Karen Fenney of Wheaton, David (Susan) of West Chicago, Stephan (Barb) of North Yarmouth, ME, Cindy (John Wells) of Eugene, OR, Patty Mullins of Wheaton, and Bill (MaryBeth) of Wheaton, fourteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, one son, Robert, and one daughter, Christie Vallo.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 14, at 11:15 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 310 S. Wheaton Ave, Wheaton, IL 60187. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
