Elaine "Karin" Anderson, age 91, of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, formerly a longtime resident of Wheaton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 28, 2024. She was born on February 1, 1933, in Springfield, Massachusetts, to Edwin and Edith Johnson.

Karin grew up in Springfield, MA and graduated from Classical High School. She later attended Wheaton College and West Suburban School of Nursing. It was during her time at Wheaton that she met the love of her life, Jim Anderson, whom she married on December 11, 1954. They raised five children in Wheaton, where Karin was actively involved in the community, notably with Central DuPage Hospital, supporting her husband, who was President/CEO of the hospital.

Devotion to Jesus was central to her life. She was active in her church both as a Jr high Sunday School teacher and as a Deaconess. Karin modeled love and unselfishness, she listened well, and was truly empathetic, always helping where there was a need. As families experienced challenges in her neighborhood, she had a growing desire to further connect with women and helped begin a neighborhood Bible study which continued for many years. Above all, she cherished her role as a wife, mother,  grandmother and great-grandmother.  She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her for her kindness, generosity, hospitality, and unwavering love for others.

Karin loved and held dear her family and considered each one a blessing.

She is survived by her husband, James Anderson, four children, Elaine Anderson Morrone, Beth (Hythem) Shadid, David (Anne) Anderson, and Sharon (Jon) Mrkonich, her daughter-in-law, Karen (Jeff) Schutter, 17 grandchildren, Nick (Amy) Morrone, Mike (Valerie) Morrone, Kristin (Lawrence) Finkenthal,  Hannah Anderson, Jimmy (Sofia) Anderson, Kari Anderson, Andrew (Maryam) Shadid, Jon Shadid, Ben Shadid, Caleb Shadid, Margaret (Oscar) Andrade, KK (Eric) Willett, David Anderson, JJ Mrkonich, Sarah Kate Mrkonich, Jilayne Mrkonich, Jenna Mrkonich, 10 great grandchildren, Stella, Eleni, Mia, and Niki Morrone; Ava Morrone; Sara Anderson; Caspian, Luca, and Lena Shadid; Anna James Andrade, and a sister, Greta Lindberg.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jim Anderson, grandson, Micah Shadid, her parents, Edith and Edwin Johnson, and brothers, Iver and Alan Johnson

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1pm at Compass Church in Wheaton, 520 E. Roosevelt Rd., Wheaton. A livestream is available here .
