Edwin J. Engelhart, age 87, a resident of Carol Stream, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2015, at home. He was born July 1, 1928 in Jasper, IN.
Ed was born and raised on a farm in rural Indiana. He used to tell stories from his boyhood of how his father actually traded with the local Native Americans on the farm. He started his career as a cabinet builder with Jasper Cabinet Co. He moved to Chicago in the early 1950's. He met his wife, Lorraine, dated and then married in 1958. They moved to Villa Park, IL and raised their family. Ed worked at Remco Sales and Service for many years. He retired at the age of 62. He continued to work at Lakeview Appliances repairing Viking Ranges and other appliances in his spare time. He enjoyed fishing with his grandson, telling stories with his granddaughter and reminiscing about the old days.
He is survived by his two children, Sharon Leach of Carol Stream, and Kurt (Donna) Engelhart of Lombard, IL; two grandchildren, Erik and Elyse Engelhart; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lorraine; and nine brothers and sisters.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until the start of a funeral service to be held at 7:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be private at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton, IL.
