Edward Mitchell Mays, age 93, a resident of Glen Ellyn, IL, died Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, IL.  He was born November 10, 1929 in Camden, Tennessee to Claudie and Lola Mae Mays.

Edward grew up in Tennessee and moved to Melvindale, MI with his family as a teenager.  He then joined the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War.  Upon his return, he married Lauris Hoover in 1953 and began working at the General Motors Proving Ground in Milford, MI.  He completed engineering coursework at the General Motors Institute (GMI) and enjoyed his 42 year career as an automotive engineer.

Ed will be remembered for his encouraging attitude, great sense of humor and willingness to help others.  He was a faithful member of Wheaton Bible Church since 1981, and considered the Homebuilders class to be his second family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lauris, daughter Pamela (David) Bills, grandsons Jacob (Lindsey), Adam and Matthew, granddaughters Kristin and Abigail, great-grandchildren London, Cleveland Jr., Cali, Danny,  Khalil and Kaleah.  He is now reunited in heaven with daughter Kimberly and granddaughter Stephanie.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, Wheaton where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 am.  The service will be livestreamed through this link: Funeral Service for Edward Mays . Interment will be held at 2:00 pm at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
