Edward L. Kelty, age 70, a resident of Earlville, IL and formerly of Wheaton, IL, died May 13, 2012, after a battle with cancer. He was born May 18, 1941 in Jamaica, NY to Capt. Henry J. (Mike) ret. & Virginia Kelty.
Ed lived in New York till he was 4 years old. He and his mother Virginia were on the first dependent ship heading for Germany after WWII, He lived in Germany till the age of 15 when he and his family returned to the US. At 17 his family moved to Illinois. He graduated from St. Procopius High School in Lisle IL (aka Bennett Academy) in 1959. After graduation he served in the Marines until 1965. In May of 1966 he married Linda Cooper. For many years he worked as a carpenter and later worked for DuPage County. After retirement he moved to Earlville, IL where he worked part time as a security guard for Guardsmark.
Throughout his life he loved sports especially football. It is due to that passion that he became involved in youth football and coached the Wheaton Packers and Wheaton Rams between 1978 to1990. He also loved to fish and was known to enjoy a few hours at one of the lakes near his home when he could.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kelty, nee Cooper; son, Michael (Heather) Kelty, of Washington State; daughter, Patricia Kelty, of Washington State, daughter Kimberly (Jim) Malay of St. Charles; son, Sean (Patricia) Kelty of Wheaton; 6 grandchildren, Kallin, Tareq, Meghan, Brody, Connor, Spencer
He is preceded in death by his father.
A memorial mass will be held May 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 415 South East Street, Earlville, IL 60518, (815) 246-9642. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow at Poka's, 137 West Railroad Street, Earlville, IL 60518, (815) 246-7050.
