Edward J. Hanzelin, age 93, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 18, 2017. He was born April 6, 1924 in Chicago to Edward and Josephine Hanzelin.

He grew up in Cicero and graduated from Morton High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Panama at the Panama Canal. While attending Northwestern University, he met Elaine Ziemer at a dance. They were married on September 10, 1949. He was a mechanical engineer who worked for Motorola and Eaton Corp. They raised their family in Elmhurst and lived in Wheaton for many years.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, where among other things he was involved in the JOY Group and Dartball team. He was actively involved in the Morton High School Scholarship Foundation. He enjoyed sports and followed the Cubs as recently as the night before his death. He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ed is survived by two children, Gail (Russell) Novosad of Wheaton, and Glenn (Amy) Hanzelin of Davenport, IA; three grandchildren, Nicholas (Kaitlyn) Novosad, Katie Novosad, and Eddie Hanzelin, two great-grandchildren, Owen and Emmy; and many dear family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Elaine in 2010.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Main and Franklin St. in Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family from 10 until 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
