Edith M. Newby, age 78, a resident of Naperville, IL, died peacefully on Monday, May 7, 2012, at home. She was born December 30, 1933 in Rockwood, TN, to Clyde and Naomi Mitchell.

She lived on a farm in rural Tennessee and graduated from high school in Crossville, TN, and then graduated from Carson-Newman College in Johnson City, TN. Edith started her computer programing career at White Sands Missile Range. She went on to work for Mobile Oil in Dallas, TX, and Allstate Insurance in Northbrook, IL. She was also a computer lab assistant at Harper College in Palatine, IL.

She married Daniel Newby on August 2, 1957 in Las Cruces, NM. Edith loved the Lord Jesus and was an avid Bible reader. She has volunteered as a financial secretary in various churches, worked with the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Organization in FL, SC, OH and IL, and drove patients to Doctors appointments. She also mentored new converts using the LifeWay Survival Kit.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel W. Newby of Naperville, three children, John (Beth) Newby of Naperville, Michael Newby of Richmond, TX, and Bill Newby of Richmond, TX, seven grandchildren, Ruth, Lydia, Keren, Julia, Christopher, Brian, and Katie Newby.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Robert Mitchell.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 1 to 2 p.m at Independent Baptist Church, 380 W. Boughton Rd, Bollingbrook, IL 60440, (630) 759-1900. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 P.M. Interment will be held on Friday, May 9 at 11:00 A.M. at Corinth Cemetery in Prairie Village, Kansas.
