Edith J. "Edie" Fainter, age 99, a longtime resident of Wheaton and formerly of Elmhurst, died Wednesday, November 7 at the Tabor Hills Heathcare Center in Naperville. She was born on July 12, 1908 in Chicago to Albert and Alta Germer.
On November 10, 1934 she married Leslie Harold Fainter. Together they lived in
Elmhust from 1936, where Edie worked at the Elmhurst Post Office for 37 years. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing at the Wheaton Senior Center and with many dear friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara F. Smith of Wheaton, one son, James L. Fainter of Denver, CO, grandchildren, Julie Cooke of Bloomingdale, Scott R. Smith of Palatine and Gregory Collard of Proctorville, Ohio, and two great-grandchildren, Tony and Leah Collard. She is also survived by her nephew Albert E. Germer III and niece Sue Cromwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Albert E. Germer Jr., her sister, Jane Keegan and her nieces, Ann Bennett and Jane Krebs.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 1 at 3:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.
