Edgar R. "Eck" Lellbach, age 82, a resident of North Aurora, IL, and formerly a longtime resident of Wheaton, IL and Galena, IL, died Saturday, August 21, at the Community Nursing Center in Naperville, IL. He was born in New York, NY to Paul and Gertrude Lellbach, nee Umbach, on March 12, 1928, his mother's birthday.
He graduated from Hamstead High School in New York. He was an Eagle Scout as are his two sons and two of his grandsons. He attended Syracuse University and graduated from Hofstra University. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served four years in the Navy. He worked for IBM before forming his own election company. He was very active in community service, the Boy Scouts, the School Board of Elizabeth IL, as Homeowners Association President, the High School Booster Committee, and a number of Church Leadership Committees, too many to name. He and his wife started the St. Matthew United Church of Christ family camp, now in its 25th year.
Survived by his wife of 55 years, Suzanne Wittschiebe; son, Douglas (Debra) Lellbach; daughter, Lynda Dome; son, Eric (Ruth) Lellbach; daughter, Amy (Barry) Sneed; grandchildren, Nick and Chris Lellbach; Jordan, Ryan, Cameryn, Lauden Dome; Reed and Claire Lellbach; Hunter and Garret Sneed; and his brother, Warren "Skip" (Marita) Lellbach.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew United Church of Christ, 1420 S. Gables Blvd., in Wheaton, IL. Interment will be private.
