Earl F. Slagle, Jr., a resident of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, died Saturday, March 4, at Windsor's Johnson Healthcare Center. He was born January 14, 1922 in St. Francisville, IL.
Earl was a graduate of Dixon High School in Dixon, IL. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps as a Master Seargent in the European Theatre. He was the co-founder of E.F. Slagle and Son Commercial Printing in Dixon from 1945 until 1981. He was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, a Sea Scout, and a licensed pilot. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. In Dixon, his memberships included the Masonic Lodge (Past Master), the Jaycees, the Elks, the Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), the Dixon Board of Education (President), the Dixon Water Board, the First United Methodist Church, the Dixon Country Club, and the Dixon Chamber of Commerce.
From 1981 until 2004, Earl and his wife Rena were residents of a golf course retirement community called Cross Creek, located in Ft. Myers, FL. He served as a Cross Creek board member, was part of a drama group called the Cross Creek Players, and a member at the Church of the Cross. In 2004 Earl and Rena moved to Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream. His hobbies included boating, woodworking, golf, oil painting, fishing, world travel, and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Rena; his two children, Deedee Slagle of Batavia, and Phil (Susan) Slagle of Itasca; two grandsons, Scott Daniel (Anna) Slagle of Everett, WA, and Jeffrey Philip (Teresa) Slagle of Anchorage, AK; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Camille Slagle; a sister, Mary Katherine (Wallace) Hicks of Corbin, KY; and a brother, James R. (Sandra) Slagle of Eagle River, WI
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 10, at 6:30 P.M. at Windsor Park Manor, 124 Windsor Park Drive, in Carol Stream. Interment is private.
