E. Patricia Geurkink, age 81, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, died Monday, September 17, 2018, at Windsor Park. She had struggled with dementia for the past three years.
Pat was born June 3, 1937 in Geneva. IL. The daughter of John Wesley Carlson and Eleanor Case, and sister to Robert, David, Kenneth, Betty, William and Susan. She attended Wheaton Academy where she met Vernon Geurkink whom she married in the Wheaton Bible Church in 1958.
Pat graduated with degrees from Aquinas and Nazareth colleges, followed by a Masters in Healthcare Administration from the Medical College of Virginia.
Throughout her long working career Pat served as a registered nurse, director of intensive and intermediate care units, director of nursing, and finally as Executive Director of the Eastern Christian Children's Retreat in Wycoff New Jersey.
Pat lived in Wheaton, IL, Jerusalem, Amsterdam, Grand Rapids and Ellsworth, MI, Burke, VA and Ridgewood, NJ until her retirement to Naperville, IL.
Pat's active social life included many activities and hobbies from Book clubs, Bible studies, traveling to see her children and grandchildren and a love of tennis. Her backhand volley will always be remembered for its pinpoint accuracy.
Pat always displayed a love of travel and her journeys brought her to places such as Ireland, Prague, Budapest, London, Oxford, Paris and numerous other European cities.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother with a great love of family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon Geurkink; her sons, Brett and Eric; her six grandchildren, Christina, Stephanie, Andrew, Jessica, Heather and Brandi; and three siblings, David, Betty and Susan.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Kenneth and William.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 from 10-11 a.m. at
Wheaton Christian Reformed Church
, 711 E. Harrison Street, in Wheaton, IL. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery.
