Obituary

Dwight M. Hooten, age 86, a resident of Wheaton for 46 years, died suddenly on Tuesday, November 14 at home. He was born on October 8, 1920 in Wauwaka, IN to Dwight and Beulah Hooten.

He served in the Army, Counter Intelligence, during WWII in the South Pacific and then graduated from NYU. He married Jean Chamberlin on June 25, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY. In 1960 he and Jean and their three daughters moved to Wheaton. They added to their family through the adoption of three Korean children.

His delight was in the Lord. He was diligent and faithful in following God's guidance seeking to honor and reflect Christ in all he did. He gave selflessly and prayed tirelessly seeking to further the Kingdom of God throughout his life. Dwight and his family were longtime members of College Church in Wheaton where he served as an elder and taught Sunday School.

He began his career in advertising working for NOAB in New York and Chicago. In the late 60's he joined Tyndale House Publishing where he contributed to many periodicals and books, most notably "Have a Good Day." He retired in 1989 as Executive Editor of Periodicals.

He is survived by 6 children, Marion (Bob) Myczek of AZ, Ellen (Frank) Scognamillo of AZ, Dorothy (Dan) Voss of Wheaton, David (Jennifer) Hooten of Wheaton, Kenneth (Janet) Hooten of Hinsdale, and Mae Lynn (Rich) Johnson of Wheaton, 12 grandchildren, John, Jennie-Jean; David; Alicia, Brandon; Austen, Jacob; Dwight Graham, Libby, Mara; Jessica and Danielle, and 5 great-grandchildren, Chloe, Paige, Kali, Kade and Casey.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jean and his parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 17 from 9:30 until the time of a funeral at 11:00 a.m. at College Church in Wheaton, Seminary and Washington St. in Wheaton. Interment will follow at Wheaton Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Holt Adoption Agency, Wynscape Healthcare Center in Wheaton, or College Church in Wheaton Special Education.
