Douglas A. Tremper, age 81, a resident of Wheaton, IL, for 25 years, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023. He was born July 20, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Beatrice Tremper.
Doug grew up in Elmwood Park and graduated from Elmwood Park High School in 1959, and later attended Moody Bible Institute where he met Ruth Martin. They were married June 6, 1964 in Elmwood Park Bible Church. In 1966, they moved to Daytona Beach, Florida where he worked for 30 years for Bell South. In 1997, he returned to the Chicago area, moving to Wheaton. He enjoyed a second career working in Chicago for AT&T until early 2020, having worked for 52 years in the Telecommunications industry.
Throughout his life he actively served in church ministry and enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching adult Sunday School, and serving in leadership. A steadfast student of the Bible, his commitment to God's Word was always evident in his devotional life and study. Moreover, his whole life was characterized by a continuing thread of humility and kindness.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, two sons, Jared (Bethanne) Tremper of Cary, Jonathan (Jenny Raia) Tremper of Oak Park, two granddaughters, Ruby Jean and Gigi Tremper, his brother, Donald (Jean) Tremper of Gurnee and his sister, Virginia (David) MacPhail of Wauconda.
A visitation will be held on at Gary United Methodist Church, 224 N Main St, Wheaton, IL 60187, on Friday, February 24, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 10:00 a.m. with a time of refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Moody Bible Institute or the Pacific Garden Mission .
