Douglas Allen Higgins, age 81, a resident of Wheaton, Illinois, died on Thursday, February 27, 2025.  He was born on September 14, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Helen Higgins.

Douglas and his family moved to Evanston, Illinois, where he grew up. He attended Loyola Academy High School, where he played baseball and basketball, and then college at the University of Notre Dame. He obtained a Masters Degree in English from the University of Notre Dame. He started his career in education as a High School English teacher in South Bend, Indiana and then Chicago, and after a few years transitioned to Real Estate and Property Management. At the age of 55, he returned to his true passion, education, and became an Assistant Principal and subsequently Principal. He served as Principal of Lincoln Elementary School for 13 years until his retirement in 2015.

Douglas was a very spiritual person and began following Prem Rawat, formerly known as Maharaji, in 1973, when he saw him speak at a program in Nebraska about inner peace. That event was life changing for him, and he often said, "his words blasted my heart open". He received "Knowledge" from Prem and continued to practice daily meditative practices for the next 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Gabriela Higgins of Wheaton, his daughter Rana Higgins and son-in-law Logan Schaefer of Brookfield, Wisconsin, daughter Emily Higgins of Wheaton, son Daniel Higgins of Wheaton, daughter Banafsheh Siadat and son-in-law Virag Shah of Sacramento, California and daughter Marjan Siadat and son-in-law Ken Kelley of Sacramento, California, grandchildren Griffin Schaefer, Hudson Schaefer, and Zahra Kelley, and brother John Higgins and sister-in-law Marie Higgins.

He was preceded in death by his father John Higgins, mother Helen Higgins, brother James Higgins, and sister Stephanie McLaughlin.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton, Illinois, with a time of sharing held at 5:00 p.m.
