Obituary

Dorothy H. Wellman passed away on Friday, December 9, at Bickford Senior Living in Oswego, IL. She was born on October 18, 1915 in Chicago, IL to Thomas and Gladys Hemmens. She graduated from Parker High School and attended Morgan Park Junior College.

On July 11, 1942 she was married to Harold F. Schultz. While Harold served in WWII she worked for the Home Insurance Company until they later started their family and moved to Wauwatosa, WI. Upon their return to Illinois in 1960, they settled in Wheaton, IL.

Dorothy loved nothing more than caring for her family, being involved in the community and her church community. She was an amazing seamstress and accomplished at decorating cakes beautifully, especially for family birthdays. She was a long time member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Wheaton where she was involved in St. Margaret's Guild, Episcopal Church Women, the church bridge group and other ministries. She loved playing bridge and actually belonged to 3 bridge groups.

Harold passed away in 1972 and in 1976 Dorothy married Arthur Wellman. They enjoyed traveling, especially their 14 cruises to various parts of the world, until his death in 1996. Along with Arthur she was a lifelong Cubs fan. She was so proud of her Scottish heritage and family ancestry. Dorothy had many items with the Scottish thistle on it, dishes, and sweaters and rarely went without a thistle pin on her lapel. She was an 80 year member of the DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution; a charter member of the Annis Avery Hill Chapter, Wauwatosa, WI. Her family had 4 men who served in the war for independence.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Harold Schultz (Kathleen); daughter, Jean Thurmond (Les); 2 grandaughters, Jennifer Patrick (Justin Ott), and Jessica Kleiss (Luke) and great granddaughter, Mary Patrick; stepson, Arthur Douglas Wellman, his son Ryne Wellman (Noelle) and great granddaughter Savona.

From her 2nd marriage she was also blessed with Arthur's extended family: stepson Paul Schmidtke (Cheryl) their daughter, Johanna Schmidtke (Shlom Goffri) and their 2 children Jonathon and Zachary Goffri; step daughter, Ruth Buenting (Rev. James) and their children, Phillip Buenting, Elizabeth Bergeron( Richard), Michael Buenting ( Charlene), Joel Buenting (Christine Hanson,) and their 4 grandchildren, Rachel Bergeron, Gabe Bergeron, Zachary Buenting and Eli Buenting-Hanson.

In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.

A funeral service will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church Chapel, 130 N. West St., Wheaton, Illinois 60187, on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will be at Wheaton Cemetery after the service.
