Dorothy L. Sanders, age 85, a lifelong resident of Glen Ellyn and Wheaton, died Thursday, April 14 at Edward Hospital in Naperville surrounded by her loving family. Recently she has lived at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville. She was born in Oak Park on January 3, 1920 to George and Katherine Lauterbach.
Dorothy was a graduate of St. Petronille Grammar School and Glenbard West High School. In 1942 she graduated from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. She married Walter D. Sanders at St. Petronille Church in 1943. Together they built custom homes throughout Du Page County. The Arrowhead Subdivision of Wheaton was named after their business Arrowhead Inc. Waldorth Court in south Wheaton was named after Walter and Dorothy. In the 1980's she worked as a Realtor for Auble-Brady Century 21 in Wheaton. She also volunteered for the Ben Franklin School Library in Glen Ellyn.
She is survived by six daughters Cathie (Jim) Tonkin of Plainfield, Barbara (Glen) Zeman of Johnson City, TN, Paula (Gary) Pestka of Carol Stream, IL , Laura (Dean) Bladel of Glen Ellyn, Debbie (Ken) Bray of Glen Ellyn and Carol (Joe) Szczepaniak of Omaha, NE, and 14 grandchildren, Jay Tonkin, Eric Tonkin, Brian Zeman, Doug Pestka, Jill Tonkin, Kevin Zeman, Nicole Bray, Angela Bray, Sarah Pestka, Jessica Szczepaniak, Ken Bray, Joe Szczepaniak, Katie Szczepaniak, Christine Szczepaniak. She is also survived by her cousin Mary Ann Drzewiecki (Woods) of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 17, from 2 until 7 p.m. at the Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton. A mass will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Petronille Church, with prayers at the funeral home at 9:15.
Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.
