IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy H.
Rung
January 23, 1927 – March 24, 2025
Dorothy H. "Dot" Rung, age 98, a resident of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, IL, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025. She was born January 23, 1927 in Buffalo, New York to Muriel & Marion Hoff.
Dorothy graduated from Lafayette High School in 1944 before earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from Gordon College in 1951. Her career was marked by a deep commitment to service and people, beginning in 1956 when she joined The King's College as Public Relations Supervisor, a position she held until 1960. In the early 1960s, she transitioned to a Night Shift Supervisor role at Reader's Digest from 1962 to 1963, and then took on a long and rewarding tenure at Wheaton College. As the Student Personnel Office Administrative Assistant from 1964 to 1989, Dorothy became a cherished presence on the Wheaton College campus, offering support and guidance to students, staff, and faculty alike.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dorothy was widely known for her hospitality and kindness. She was an unofficial hostess for the Windsor Park Estates, organizing and coordinating quarterly dinners that brought people together and fostered a sense of connection among neighbors.
A lover of communication, Dorothy remained a traditionalist in an increasingly digital world. She wrote more than 200 letters, birthday cards, and Christmas cards each year until just before her passing. Her handwritten notes were a testament to her thoughtfulness.
She is survived by her husband of 76 years, Richard C.; her children Judy (Carl) Pickard & Richard E. Rung; her grandchildren Jennifer Brzosowicz, Mara Pickard & Bryan (Katie) Pickard and Tiffany (Mike Jeffries) Rung & Megan Cournoyer; her six great-grandchildren: Kailynn, Addison, Kekai, Marley, Harper & Dorothy.
She was preceded in death by her sister Thelma "Perky" (the late Ted) Sikorski.
