IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Jeanne
Miller
March 20, 1933 – September 16, 2024
Dorothy Jeanne Miller, age 91, of Wheaton, IL, died peacefully at home with her daughter Michele by her side on September 16, 2024.
Jeanne was born on March 20, 1933, to Kenneth and Dorothy Stultz in LaMonte, Missouri, and was the second of two daughters. She grew up in Columbia, Missouri. After high school, she attended nursing school at Missouri University, where she received her bachelor's degree in nursing. She met Walter Miller when he returned from serving in the Army during the Korean War, and they were married in 1955.
Jeanne worked as a registered nurse at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis, where their three children were born. The family then moved to Pennington, New Jersey, where Jeanne worked in a pediatrician's office for several years. She was very active at Central Baptist Church in Ewing Township. The family later moved to Brighton, Michigan, where Jeanne worked at a substance use disorder hospital for nearly 20 years. She loved her Sunday school class and small group Bible study and built lifelong friendships in Brighton.
After Jeanne and Walter retired, they moved to Warrenville, Illinois, to be near their daughters and nine of their twelve grandchildren. Jeanne worked part-time at Tyndale House Publishers in Wheaton for five years and was an active member of Wheaton Bible Church and the Legacy Sunday School class. In Jeanne's last two years, she took copious sermon notes while watching Sunday services online with her dear friend Marion.
Jeanne is remembered particularly for the ordinary acts of service that she undertook for those around her. She cared deeply about the needs of others, and no one ever left her home empty handed. As a nurse, she touched the lives of many individuals, especially those recovering from alcohol addiction, and cared for her elderly mother-in-law at home. Each time a new grandchild arrived, Jeanne was there to cook and provide reinforcement. After her retirement, she provided loving and faithful care to Walter, enabling him to enjoy the last years of his life at home. As a widow, Jeanne demonstrated courage, compassion to others, and faith in God as she navigated a new season of life.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Walter on January 30, 2020, after nearly 65 years of marriage. She is survived by her sister Barbara Rieger in Denver; three children, Michele (Mark) Norton, Jeff (Angel) Miller, and Pamela Hays; twelve grandchildren, Chris, Jon, Ben (Elena), and Daniel (Sierra) Norton, Brandi (daughters Sophia and Isabelle), Caleb, and Noah Miller, and Greta, Caroline, Alex, Amanda (Warren), and Caleb Hays; as well as her niece and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at Wheaton Bible Church, 27W500 North Ave, West Chicago, IL, on Saturday, October 5, at 11:00 a.m.
