Dorothy "Dottie" H. Matheson, age 89, a resident of Bloomingdale, died Monday, June 17, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Illinois. She was born January 28, 1924 in Chicago to Herbert and Mildred Pohl.
Dottie grew up in Chicago and graduated from Carl Schurz High School. In 1947 she married Walter J. Jeanes. She worked as a medical and insurance secretary for many years including working for Dr. James Giganti of Elmwood Park and Dr. Lester Gross. After Walter's death in 1970, she married LeRoy Matheson in 1976. They moved to Glen Ellyn and eventually to Arizona, returning to Bloomingdale in 1990. She was widowed again in 2007.
She enjoyed music; playing the organ, attending concerts and dancing. She was an avid dog lover and her dog Annie was her joy and comfort. She also loved baking, sewing and enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her sisters-in-law: Arlene German, Mary Ewer, Audrey Vowles all of Ontario & (predeceased by Doris Kaufman) also survived by brother-in-law Calvin Matheson of Orlando Florida & (predeceased by Donald Matheson,Ontario) and a number of cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends and caregivers who have played an important role in her life.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, and her godchild, Sandy Schomig, nee Bemke.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 22, from 9 to 11 at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St. in Wheaton, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove, Illinois.
