Dorothy's father, Paul Hong Lee, was born and raised in China, in Hoy San, a small village in the Kungtung Province, about 200 miles from Canton, China. He was a wealthy man in China, but lost everything when he had to flee before the Communists took over. He came to America, met an English woman named Louise, married her and had two children, James and Dorothy. Dorothy's father was the last of his dynasty in China, so when he died, there was a huge funeral procession for him in Chinatown, New York City, where he resided.
Dorothy has lived her entire life in Illinois, mostly in the Chicago area. She and George divorced in the mid-70's. She spent some time in central Illinois, where she worked part-time and volunteered in soup kitchens and helping the needy. When her health began to decline, she relocated back to the Chicago area in 2000 to be closer to family. When one daughter moved to Colorado, Dorothy moved there in February 2005. Dorothy has been residing in Evergreen, Colorado since and died at Life Care Center of Evergreen December 12th.
