Obituary

Dorothy A. Karabin, age 88, a resident of Wynscape Nursing Home in Wheaton, died Sunday, September 23, 2012. She was born January 20, 1924 in Chicago IL, daughter of Frank and Agnes Henning.

Dorothy received a nursing diploma from St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago in 1947 and spent her career in the health care field, first as a nurse and later as a medical transcriptionist and quality auditor. She met her husband, Michael, while he was her patient in the hospital, married, and raised four children in Berwyn, IL. Dorothy had a great love for learning and enjoyment of the world. She loved travel and had been to 43 states and Europe on her numerous journeys. To the end of her days she was voracious reader and loved classical music. She was a remarkable Christian and her faith sustained her through many difficult challenges of life. She was deeply devoted to her family.

She is survived by her children, Mary Beth Hooker, Charles (Beatrice) Karabin, Brian (Dorothy) Karabin, and Joan (Robert) Holmgren; and seven grandchildren, Jennifer Hooker, Thomas Hooker, Elizabeth Karabin, Matthew Karabin, Marissa Karabin, Jillian Holmgren, and Jason Holmgren. She is also survived by her two sisters and three brothers. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2011 and a brother.

The family wishes to dearly thank her good friends Sheila Herpolsheimer, Wendy Wilson, and her many friends from Faith Covenant Church, the staff at Wynscape and Ray Geiger from CNS Hospice Care for their love and caring.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Covenant Church in Wheaton on Saturday, October 20 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
