Dorothy McDonald Chrouser, 99, of Windsor Park Manor in Carol Stream, IL, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Windsor's Johnson Health Care Center. She was born December 18, 1912 in Wheaton, IL.
Mrs. Chrouser was a 1934 graduate of Wheaton College and taught physical education at Sterling College in Kansas, Wheaton College, and Wheaton Christian Grammar School. She was a member of College Church in Wheaton, had a heart for youth and served as a Pioneer Girls leader for 19 years. With her husband, Harvey Chrouser, she was deeply involved in the development of Honey Rock Camp, Three Lakes, WI and made a special contribution to the girls' camp program.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Harvey C. Chrouser, her husband of 66 years, and a son, Dr. William H. Chrouser, a sister Elsie M. Orr, and two brothers, Robert McDonald and James A. McDonald, MD.
She is survived by two of her children and their spouses, Dr. Daniel R. and Barbara M. Chrouser of Fort Collins, CO, Jean C. and Paul Burkhart of Papua, Indonesia; daughter-in-law Donna N. Chrouser of Lake Wales, FL; a brother, Donald Q. McDonald of Carol Stream, IL; seven grandchildren, Heidi C. and Scott Grogg, Aaron P. and Nancy C. Burkhart, Andrew M. and Marlene S. Burkhart, Daniel J. and Jennifer A. Burkhart, Kristin L. Chrouser, MD, Susanna B. and Paul Holcomb, William D. Chrouser; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 1, 2012, from 4-8 p.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 North Main Street, in Wheaton, IL. The Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium at Windsor Park Retirement Community, 124 Windsor Park Drive, Carol Stream, IL. Interment will be private at Wheaton Cemetery.
