Doris Ruth Tharnstrom, age 94, a resident of Anthology Assisted Living in Wheaton, IL. passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family November 28, 2022.

She was born June 4, 1928 in Allouez, Michigan to Arne & Alma Koskela. She was the 3rd of 5 children raised in rural upper Michigan. After graduation from high school, she attended Augustana Hospital Nursing training and became an RN. Her marriage to Stanley was in Chicago 1950. She was a loving mother, creative seamstress, fabulous cook, great entertainer at home, creative quilter/knitter/crocheter/and did needlework of all kinds. She embroidered tablecloths and made beautiful sequined ornaments for the Holidays. Needless to say her hands were always busy and she was a domestic goddess.

She enjoyed extensive traveling with her daughter to Africa, France, California, Corpus Christi, Upper Michigan, East Coast and throughout the Midwest. She never met a stranger and was always interested in their stories.  She was a very devoted Christian, had many long term friendships, was an amazing caretaker for family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother (granny garbanzo), and great grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Christine (Michael), David and John (Sarah); her grandchildren, Jarrett (Ali), Anika, Kelsey (Evan) & Sage; her great grandchildren children, Abel and Kennedy; and her brother, Paul. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in California and Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, her son, Steven and her siblings, Helen, Clayton and Kenneth.

A Life Celebration was held in the home of John and Sarah in Wheaton, IL on November 30, 2022 and at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, IL on December 2, 2022 where she is interred.
