Doris Hoops MacKinney, age 100, a resident of Friendship Village in Schaumburg for 30 years, died Thursday, February 22, at Friendship Village. She was born June 13, 1906 in New York, NY to Charles and Caroline Hoops.
Doris graduated from Wheaton College in 1928. That same year, she married Rev. Archie MacKinney who served as Pastor in Chester, PA, Fall River, MA, and North Syracuse, NY. She worked as an Executive Secretary in a torpedo factory during World War II in Fall River, MA. She was also a secretary for Burdick Motors in North Syracuse, NY. She loved God and was a consummate Pastor's wife.
She is survived by her three children, Dr. Archie A. (Shirley) MacKinney of Madison, WI, Rev. Carolyn M. Raffensperger of Big Bay, MI, and Rev. William (Karin) MacKinney of Shoreview, MN; 11 grandchildren, Carolyn E. (Fred Kirschenmann) Raffensperger, Jean Clark, William (Jean) Raffensperger, Dr. John F. (Marilyn) Raffensperger, James (Janet Schill) Raffensperger, Dr. Theodore (Rachel) MacKinney, Dr. Julieann (Melvin) Holt, John (Julie) MacKinney, Carla Rolf, Paul MacKinney, and Jeremy MacKinney; 17 great-grandchildren; and her cousin, Paul Drechsel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Archie MacKinney; her parents; and her sister, Mildred Sorg Blasius.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 3:00 P.M. at Friendship Village in the Fellowship Hall at 350 W. Schaumburg Road, in Schaumburg. Interment is private at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace.
