Doris "Dori" L. Krengel's Obituary
Doris "Dori" L. Krengel, age 90, a resident of West Chicago for 62 years, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 26, 2018. She was born April 10, 1928 in Wheaton to Lucius and Dorothy Gauger.
Dori grew up in Wheaton and graduated from Wheaton Community High School in 1946. She married Clifford H. Krengel on February 14, 1948. While raising two small children, Clifford contracted Polio and was confined to a wheelchair. She was devoted to her family and her faith. She loved people, loved life, loved all animals (especially her cats) and she was a lifelong Cubs fan.
Dori attended the Art Institute of Chicago for fashion design while raising her family. She loved working in textile art including leather work, loom weaving and sewing. She worked for ten years as the manager at Mari Lee fabric store in Wheaton.
She had a love of cultural arts and music and she had studied to be an opera singer. She loved singing in choirs and sharing her love of music with others. She enjoyed nature, camping and the outdoors. She also enjoyed travel and exploring new places. Her family fondly remembers how she enjoyed baking and cooking for family holiday gatherings.
She was a longtime member of Gary United Methodist Church and has been a member of Willow Creek Community Church in the past.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Krengel of West Chicago, her son, Clifford A. (Helen) Krengel of West Chicago, two grandchildren, Jonathan A. (Rachel) Krengel of Plano and Caitlin A. Krengel of West Chicago, two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Lily. She is also survived by her siblings, Lois Gauger-Hewitt of Oklahoma City, OK, David (Virginia) Gauger of Rockford and Thomas (Ann) Gauger of Boston, MA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford in 1994, and her parents.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 from 9:30 until the time of a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton. Interment will follow at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst, Illinois.
